Shell images in the following categories are grouped by Family, and listed in more or less morphological order.
Species within each family are generally listed in order of rarity. IE. the more common species or forms are listed first.

. A = Aupourian (north of the Kaipara Harbour and East Cape)
. C = Cookian (the remainder of the North Island and the northern part of the South Island)
. F = Forsterian (Otago, Fiordland and Stewart Island)
. K = Kermadec Islands
. M = Moriorian (Chatham Islands)
. An = Antipodean (the subantarctic islands of New Zealand)

. E = Endemic
. L = Land snail
. FW = Freshwater
. N = North Island
. S = South Island
